2005 Tour Highlights

The Calumet Chamber Musicians 2005 summer tour was as grand as expected.

Stamford, England
In their concert in England, the Calumet Chamber Musicians were pleased to be joined by CCM members Andrew Smith (violin) and Andrea Mills (cello), plus guest pianist Wayman Chin. The concert was part of the Stamford International Music Festival, directed by Smith, in the lovely town of Stamford about 100 miles north of London. In addition to concerts by festival faculty and guest artists, the festival offers an international student body (US, UK, Europe) two weeks of study with noted chamber music faculty. CCM thanks Dr. Andrew Smith and the other SIMF faculty for the invitation to participate, and they look forward to next year.

Paris, France: "Beautiful music played with energy and insight..."

After a two-day stop-over in London for a little sightseeing, Wachala, Llama, and Kristina traveled to France for two more performances. In Paris, the City of Light, their well-attended performance at The American Cathedral drew an enthusiastic, capacity crowd. In the words of the cathedral's summer organist, Houston Grand Opera coach Bob Brewer, the concert was filled with "beautiful music played with energy and insight."

Menet, France:  "Un concert formidable!" —the Stravinsky Family

A highlight of CCM's participation in the music festival in the village of Menet, in the province of Cantal, was having two members of Igor Stravinsky's family in attendance at their concert, which took place in the 12th century church, Eglise de St. Pierre. Clarinettist Enrique Llama dedicated his performance of Stravinsky's Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet to the Stravinskys, who greeted the group backstage afterwards, saying the concert was "formidable," and praising the group's "enthousiasme."

European Tour 2008

Given the success of our first European tour in 2005 and follow-up performances in 2006 and 2007, planning now begins for 2008 and 2009. Please contact us now about scheduling dates in Europe for summer 2008 and summer 2009.

We are now in our seventh season of offering concerts to the Calumet Region (the area around Chicago, USA). We have typically used a very flexible instrumentation, allowing us to program a broad range of repertoire. Flute, clarinet, and piano, with the option of adding soprano voice, make up the heart of our ensemble, with the possibility of including violin, cello, and/or horn in the touring ensemble.

Click on our repertoire page to see the broad range of music we have performed in our first five seasons. The list of composers represented (Bach, Barber, Berio, Bizet, Brahms, Byrd, Chaminade, Copland, Debussy, Dvorak, Gaubert, Hindemith, Honegger, Hoover, Koechlin, Messiaen, Muczynski, Schumann, Shostakovich, and Villa-Lobos, and many others) obviously offers many interesting program possibilities. Additionally, we are continually adding to our repertoire. We are respected for our interesting and varied programs. We also welcome your suggestions and requests.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss fees, lodging, and other arrangements. We look forward to bringing our chamber music to your region.
